Jennifer Ruehr
Jennifer Ruehr is a Partner at Hintze Law PLLC and co-chair of the firm’s Workplace Privacy Group, Cybersecurity and Breach Response Group, and the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Group.
Jennifer advises clients ranging from the largest technology, automotive, airline, media, manufacturing, telecommunication, publishing, and retail clients to innovative start-ups. She provides clients with business-focused, practical, actionable legal advice for developing, operationalizing, and maintaining a privacy program in a dynamic regulatory environment, developing strategies for managing and communicating about privacy and AI risk, and negotiating complex data processing and transfer agreements.
With nearly twenty years of in-house experience, she also provides strategic counselling and operational support in the following areas:
Strategy and counseling for compliance with federal and state privacy laws
Drafting and negotiating data processing and transfer agreements, data use and sharing agreements
Advising on vendor risk management programs
Counseling on strategy and risks related to online and mobile tracking technologies
Developing strategies and programs for cybersecurity and incident response
Advising on and responding to incidents and personal data breaches
Counseling on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity and AI risks in technology development and deployment
Advising on biometrics, location data, and children’s data issues
Counseling clients in responding to regulatory inquiries
Advising on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, and AI risks in connection with significant M&A deals, including conducting due diligence and assisting with integration after the deal closes.
Jennifer also has special expertise counselling on workplace privacy and data protection issues, including developing and implementing workplace privacy and electronic monitoring policies and programs; developing and implementing retention and deletion policies and programs; and conducting employee privacy assessments. She advises on the risks and requirements related to biometric, health, and location data; background checks; employee profiling and monitoring; developing and deploying AI and machine learning technologies, and risks related to automated decision-making in the workplace. She also provides advice on privacy issues in employee and candidate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
Representative areas of expertise include advising on matters relating to state and federal comprehensive privacy laws, workplace privacy, automated decision-making, CAN-SPAM, GDPR, SMS and telemarketing laws, online and mobile tracking, laws relating to biometrics, location data, and children, mergers and acquisitions, health privacy, privacy and security by design, vendor risk management, and incident response, including data breach response.
Jennifer was formerly Legal Counsel, Privacy and Security, for Adobe Systems Incorporated providing guidance on global data protection compliance and strategy. Prior to joining Adobe’s privacy team, Jennifer supported and advised Adobe’s products and services teams on data and licensing compliance and strategy during product development. She also provided support and counseling on advertising and marketing issues.
