October 11, 2016. Hintze Law is pleased to announce that Mike Hintze has joined the firm as partner. Mike joins Hintze Law after serving as Chief Privacy Counsel at Microsoft, where, for over 18 years, he advised on data protection compliance globally, and helped lead the company’s strategic initiatives on privacy differentiation and public policy. Mike joins Susan Lyon-Hintze, partner and founder of Hintze Law, in leadership of the firm. His practice focus on global privacy and data protection compliance, policy, and strategy.
Mike is a recognized leader in global privacy and data protection law. He brings a wealth of practical and pragmatic in-house, privacy expertise to serve our clients. Mike offers on-the-ground skills engaging with lawmakers and regulators in the U.S., EU, Canada, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. He has extensive experience both on policy advocacy and in responding to inquiries, investigations, and enforcement actions. Mike is a regular writer and sought-after speaker on data protection issues, whose experience includes testifying before Congress, state legislatures, and European regulators.
Mike also teaches privacy law at the University of Washington School of Law, serves as an advisor to the American Law Institute’s project on Information Privacy Principles, and is on the Educational Advisory Board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Mike was an associate with Steptoe & Johnson LLP, which he joined following a judicial clerkship with the Washington State Supreme Court. Mike is a graduate of the University of Washington and the Columbia University School of Law.
